ATHOS EXCURSION

Green landscape,  deep blue sea, monasteries, temples and chapels. We take you to the mysterious world of the “Holy Mountain”, MONK REPUBLIC OF ATHOS, an important centre of Eastern Orthodox monasticism

 

After breakfast, our air-conditioned coach awaits you and takes you to a small harbor where you will board our excursion boat. While sailing along the beautiful coast, you will learn from the guide on board interesting facts about the 2000 year history of the Monk's Republic. 1700 monks  still live together  in Athos in 20 large monasteries.

 

The MONK REPUBLIC OF ATHOS belongs to the territory of the Greek State and it is governed as an autonomous polity within the Greek Republic. The entry is allowed only for male visitors and it is required  to obtain a special entrance permit valid for a limited period. Enjoy fantastic views of Mount Athos, the Byzantine monasteries and the crystal clear sea from the ship. With a little luck you even might see playful dolphins.

 

Ouranoupolis, a small town on the border of the "forbidden area" invites you for a hearty lunch break. Enjoy the sea view and taste the Tsipouro and Meze or stroll through the town.

 

On your return journey enjoy the sounds of a  traditional greek band and even join in with some Greek dancing!
